Inbound: AXIS ART v2 1099
A new entry into the AXIS ART v2 lineup appeared recently, one that will certainly have pleased the AXIS faithful. We got in touch with the team to find out why this was such a significant addition to the range…
The 1099 marks the fifth family member into the ART v2 range. Was this one always on the cards, or were you responding to requests from existing ART v2 fans?
At the beginning of the ART v2 planning and design phases, we were not planning to release a bigger size than the 999. We felt that the 999 ART v2 covered so much range and use that a bigger one wouldn’t be necessary. But the user community made it very clear that the original 1099, possibly one of the most successful AXIS foils to date and Guinness Record holder, also needs a successor. After the first couple prototypes of the ART v2 1099, we knew that we were onto something special.
What are the main performance enhancements from the original ART range in terms of quantifiable factors and feel?
The AXIS ART v2 1099 introduces several enhancements over the original ART 1099, aiming to provide a more balanced and versatile foiling experience.
In terms of design and performance, the ART v2 1099 features a more tapered outline compared to its predecessor. This updated outline reduces the second moment of area for roll, resulting in looser and more predictable turning characteristics, akin to a smaller wing. Additionally, the v2 achieves a perfectly elliptical span-wise lift distribution, which not only enhances glide and pump efficiency but also maintains agile and responsive handling.
Construction wise, the ART v2 is strategically reinforced with military-grade Ultra High Modulus carbon which strengthens the connection between the wing and fuselage. This material enhancement provides quicker response, improved performance, and increased strength.
Then in terms of compatibility, the ART v2 1099 is optimized for the Black Advance+ fuselage range. It pairs well with either the Skinny or smaller Progressive rear wing ranges. This optimization ensures a harmonious setup tailored for enhanced performance.
In summary, the AXIS ART v2 1099 builds upon the foundation of the original ART 1099 by incorporating design refinements and material enhancements. These improvements aim to deliver a foil that offers a harmonious blend of speed, glide, and maneuverability, catering to a wide range of foiling activities.

Talk to us about the primary responsibility for this foil, and what kind of rider is gonna love it…
Riders of all levels will enjoy this foil. Many have reported that the ART v2 1099 strikes a fantastic balance between performance and ease of use. It’s praised for being pump-friendly and stable, while still offering sharp turning and responsive handling. This makes it accessible for intermediate to advanced riders looking to enhance their foiling experience.
Let’s hear a little more about what design touches have gone into this one and why…
The ART v2 1099, similar to the rest of the ART v2s features way less turn down on the tips, so you can breach those tips easily. The wing outline tapers with more chord in the middle and much more taper on the tips, making the ART v2 1099 roll much freer from side to side, and carve much nicer for the span.
Does this have any genetic make up or attributes carried over other ranges?
The AXIS ART v2 1099 is a high-performance hydrofoil wing that offers a blend of speed, glide, and maneuverability, making it suitable for various foiling disciplines. Its design combines elements from both the ART Pro and Spitfire series, resulting in a versatile and user-friendly experience. It features a high aspect ratio design, which contributes to its impressive glide and speed capabilities. The wing is reinforced with our Ultra High Modulus carbon, enhancing the connection between the wing and fuselage for quicker response, better performance, and increased strength. Additionally, it comes with a unique waterproof X-Ply/Mylar material bag for protection during transport and storage.

And is this front wing a good option for the burgeoning parawing crew?
The ART v2 1099 can be a great option for the parawing and the DW crowd. Great loft, pump, and turning put it on the top of the list for the slower and mushier conditions across many parts of the world. The ART v2 1099 also works very well for SUP foiling on medium to small waves and also light wind winging.
We know you always have multiple projects on the go. What can we expect next out of the AXIS forge?
There is always a high level of activity in the R&D department. We are currently working on a new foil for higher speeds during racing and big wave foiling. We are also finalizing larger Fireballs, more PNG v2 wings, and of course the Frank boards collaboration which is getting great traction.
