Rising up: XAVI CORR

Busy making his way up the rankings on the GWA tour, 15 year old Xavi Corr is certainly on track to be a name we’re all going to be hearing plenty more from soon…

Hey Xavi! So first, please give us a little overview of yourself. Where do you live, how old are you, and what are you currently riding?
Hi! I have lived in Tarifa all my life, it's on the southern tip of Spain. I have just turned 15 years old and my current favorite setup in strong winds is the 36 liter AK Phaser, the 850 v2 Tracer, 80cm carbon mast, 260 stab tail and the 3 meter FreeWing Nitro.

So you grew up in Tarifa… how is the wing scene out there?
Yes, the wing scene is exploding here. I remember seeing one of the first wings here in Tarifa two years ago and it is just getting bigger and bigger. There are lots of pro riders in Tarifa so the level is always super high and guys and girls are just sending it. We have been getting into downwinders which is great on a strong Levante. I love exploring the new parts of the coast and going on a journey rather than winging in the same place all the time.

Do many of your school friends wingfoil?
No, not that many kids are doing it from my school. But hopefully more will start up soon.

Have you had a chance to do much traveling? If so, where’s your favorite spot other than home?
Yes I have traveled around Europe this year on the GWA Pro Tour – France, Switzerland, Spain and now Greece. Certainly one of my favorite places was Silvaplana in Switzerland because it is such a beautiful place, and so different from the Spanish beaches. I am super keen to get to some big wave spots, sending some big walls on the waves in Maui would be perfect for me being a goofy.

What do you get up to outside of winging? Do you have other hobbies?
I love skiing in winter for a change, surfing and I’m getting into surf foiling now. I also love flying drones and any kind of outdoor adventures!

We hear you bake some mean banana bread… what’s your recipe?
I’m afraid my banana bread recipe is top secret. But the key is not to make it too dry…

Who’s been your biggest influence in your foil career to date?
Michi who lives in Tarifa from “wingtricktionary” taught me my first freestyle tricks and we ride together a lot. I was always inspired by Balz Müller and Titouan Galea, and still flip out when doing heats against these guys. I met Balz on my first GWA event and he’s always so stoked and really helps out the groms.

If you were stuck on a desert island and could only have one wing, one board, and one foil… what would they be?
I would choose my FreeWing Nitro 4m, my AK Plasma 1000, my 80cm carbon mast, my 260 tail and the 36 liter Compact. I can use this setup in light to strong winds, and for waves, downwind and some freestyle. So I’d never get bored.

How are conditions looking today? Have you been in the water yet?
There is a pumping Levante wind at about 30 knots and I am about to go out for a big freestyle session…

Finally, what’s future Xavi Corr up to in 10 years’ time?
That is a tough one. I would love to have my own business, involving lots of travel to great places, especially with great waves and riding some crazy new gear in foiling and water sports that right now we can’t even imagine what it would look like.
