Lift release the Brian Grubb Wake/Tow Pro Models

Brian Grubb's a legend both on and off the water. Lift have further recognized this, by bringing out their own Grubb signature range, tailored to his style. Here's everything you need to know, including a Q&A with Brian on what these boards are about…

Where Board Design Meets Pure Riding Feel

In wake foiling, board design isn’t just about materials or length—it’s about how quickly the gear responds when you shift your weight, how confidently it releases off the water, and how cleanly it transitions from pull to glide. That’s what the Brian Grubb Pro Models were built to deliver.

Designed in partnership with Grubb, these boards are tuned for performance behind boats, big waves, tow-ins , and even a Lift eFoil tow—light, balanced, and built to help riders push further.

Brian Grubb interview

When you set out to design your pro model, what did you want it to feel like under your feet—and what kind of ride were you chasing?

We really wanted to make a board that felt balanced and easy to control rail to rail. The lower volume makes it easy for people to sink on the start and the slight concave top deck makes for quick response when turning and recovery. Its design really benefits riders behind the boat and towing but can also be proned in the right conditions. It’s light and responsive and that translates into great overall performance in all aspects of foiling.

Why 18 liters? Why 21? What does that volume give you when you’re in the water?

We designed the 4’0 first and the plan was to create a board in the line that had lower volume but similar surface area than the existing prone boards. Once we rode that for a while we decided on adding a bigger size for bigger riders to get the same feel. So now we have a board for everyone and all skill levels. I’ve taught first time foil riders on both of these boards and the performance features benefit them as much as the pro that ride it. These boards can be rode with or without footstraps too.

What kind of rider is going to get the most out of this board?

The boards are designed to excel behind to boat and towing. Riders will first notice how easy these boards are to start even in rough ocean conditions. Novice riders can start on this board and learn all the tricks the pros are doing so it’s the only board they will ever need. From airs to wing outs and even pumping these boards make it all smoother and easier to be consistent.

What conditions or setups are you reaching for the 4’4 over the 4’0?

These boards rip in all conditions! From the endless wave behind my Malibu boat to 10ft Chicama and everything in between. They offer unmatched control with all the LIFT wings from bigger HA’s to the small Havoc wings in big surf. I’d encourage everyone to try these boards and experience the feeling.

4’0 Wake/Tow Board: Compact, Direct, Uncompromising

At just 18L of volume, the 4’0 is the lightest and most responsive board in the line. It sinks quickly for deep water starts, releases cleanly, and gives you immediate feedback underfoot. With minimal swing weight and a tight outline, it delivers fast, intuitive control at speed or during technical maneuvers.

Ideal for:

  • Experienced wake and tow foilers
  • Riders looking for maximum control and precision
  • Trick-heavy sessions and tight carving

4’4 Wake/Tow Board: Stability Without Sacrifice

Built from the same template as the 4’0, the 4’4 adds length, width, and 3 liters of volume. That added surface area gives you more lift off the line and helps smooth out takeoffs when conditions get unpredictable.

Ideal for:

  • Riders who want a balance of control and forgiveness
  • Bigger or newer riders progressing quickly
  • Sessions where the water’s not perfectly clean but you still want to push

Once we rode the 4’0 for a while, we added the 4’4 to give bigger riders the same feel. I’ve taught first-time foil riders on both boards—the performance features benefit everyone.” — Brian Grubb
