The AFS Pure 900 is a versatile foil designed for riders looking for the perfect balance between high performance and ultimate maneuverability. The whole range of Pure foils are made of UHM Carbon Kevlar, which offer superior strength and stiffness while keeping a lightweight and thin profile. Designed with an anhedral bell shape and high aspect ratio, this foil is meant to deliver exceptional glide, making it suitable for pretty much every discipline, including freeride, freestyle, wave, speed, race, and prone foiling.
This foil comes with a full protective cover, and is compatible with all masts in the AFS range, the Performer or UHM masts are recommended to fully maximize the Pure Foil set's potential. I paired this foil with the Pure 150 stabilizer and the 80cm UHM mast for prone foiling and for winging.
Starting with the prone foil sessions, I’m usually riding a 850 for prone so this foil could totally be in my quiver. The Pure 900 amazed me with its ability to accelerate in weak summer conditions and initiate the pump. Once you have a good rhythm with the pump, you’ll generate a ton of speed as you head back out for your next wave. I covered some ground without generating too much fatigue and I was able to catch some bumps really far out. This foil has a really natural feeling. Coming from other brands, I’m always ready to have a couple of rides to adjust my riding and get used to the maneuverability and the stability but I found the pump technique and the whole feeling of the Pure 900 very natural and I didn’t need any time to adjust, as my first ride was immediately a sick one.
Once you’re riding a wave, the Pure feels comfortable and controlled, enough to carve the whole length of the wave. It’s actually really snappy for a 900, I had the stabilizer on the front position on the fuselage in order to have shorter carve. I also love the kick back you have coming out of a turn, it’s like you get pushed forward with speed. The glide on this foil was outstanding, after catching bumps far out I felt like I had a Foil Drive helping me underneath. I kept my mast high and didn’t need to pump at all for a long time.
I also took this foil out winging. It goes fast for a 900, and speed when winging equals extra pop and height when jumping. I always felt controlled when pumping or turning. For winging I had the stabilizer in the back position, to create more stability at high speed and, paired with footstraps, I like to have more drive and create longer carves over a snappier feeling. The fact that you can adjust this easily before or during your session is definitely an additional bonus.
Unfortunately I didn’t find any conditions to SUP downwind this foil, but I think I could certainly flat start the Pure 900 on small chop. The glide and efficiency that I found winging will definitely make the Pure a good compromise for downwind too. And if you’re looking for a dedicated downwind foil, you can always go for the HA version of the Pure.
In summary, the quality of this entire setup is next level. They’ve obviously taken the time to get it right and create a product that lasts. If you are looking for a high-performance foil that can handle any discipline, the AFS Pure is definitely made for you. It’s an impressive combination of strength, stiffness, and lightweight construction that makes it a true stand out..
