The all-new Wing-Surfer ADX is Naish’s flagship wing providing a versatile, high-performance design. With the ADX Nvision now also in the line up, the ADX aims to bring the performance without the higher price point. Consistent with other products from Naish, the ADX feels very durable and well built. All the main touch points of the wing feel high quality and in line with what we have come to expect from a product bearing the Naish name.
The ADX uses two inflation points, one on the leading edge and one on the strut, both with the SureLock inflation port that does require a pump adapter. Deflation is as simple as pressing the spring-loaded button in the center of the valve and rolling up the wing. Two boom-style control handles on the strut offer excellent input, control and flexibility, allowing riders to find the perfect, comfortable riding position. These handles have a rubberized grip that is comfortable and not overly abrasive on the hands. Freestyle riders will find the longer boom-style handles allow for plenty of variety of riding positions for one-handed airs, and sufficient control through rotations. Strategically placed windows in the canopy offer small viewports downwind, however these windows are quite small and have a limited viewport. The canopy tension felt even and consistent through the window materials and did not have any noticeable bagging or deformation.
The 4.0m wing was tested using a 4'6 board, 900 foil, in winds of 20-25mph and 2-3’ waves, rider 6'4, 170lb. The most noticeable characteristic of the ADX is the stiff “T-Bone” airframe. The wing feels powerful the instant it catches wind. Providing excellent low-end pull, riders will find getting going with the ADX is incredibly easy, even in lighter or semi-marginal conditions. This low-end power is tempered on the top end with great sheeting control and stability when dumping power.
The ADX feels like a jack-of-all-trades type design, with great stability and control for wave riding, while retaining the power and pop required for cutting edge freestyle. The large boom handles provide outstanding input and control without limiting the rider’s input. One interesting feeling was how steep of an upwind angle the ADX could hold before backwinding. On close reaches it felt like the ADX could point a couple degrees more into the wind than most other designs.
Overall the ADX is ideal for all round riders of any skill level. Beginners will appreciate the simplicity and durability, while advanced riders will leverage the performance characteristics and versatility. Foilers who have been enjoying the Naish ecosystem or are interested in trying something different should give the ADX a try.
